Membership

Eastside Baptist Church has a formal process for entering into church membership.  This pamphlet is written to help you to understand this process.

Why do you have a formal church membership?

We have a formal church membership because of what the Bible teaches about the nature of the church and of being a Christian.  We believe that a formal church membership is the best way of implementing that vision practically, so that we can be the kind of church community Jesus wants us to be….

1. Eldership

The elders of the church are the pastoral leadership of the church.  As such they are responsible for the spiritual direction, teaching and preaching, and pastoral care of our people.  Elders are appointed on the basis of the qualifications prescribed in 1 Tim 3:1-7.  Eldership mentoring happens on a regular basis for those that wish to pursue this calling.  You are warmly invited to have the elders visit you, pray with you and seek biblical counsel from them.  The church’s current elders are Frans Brits (081 396 5055), Joachim Rieck (081 240 9746) and Pieter Slabber (081 128 8777).

2. Diaconate

The purpose of the diaconate is to make the gospel that we proclaim look good.  We aim to assist our members in times of need, and where possible, also our wider community. You can get involved by assisting in the following areas:

  • Being a part of the Diaconal Team
  • Providing Frozen Meals
  • Giving and donating

Please contact Douglas Reissner (081 251 2503) for more information on how to get involved in this ministry.

3. Prayer Ministry

Prayer must be at the heart of what we do.  The responsibility of praying together with other members of the church on a regular basis is a privilege that also makes membership a reality.  Therefore, we meet regularly to pray together.  We warmly invite all members and visitors to join us each week in prayer.

  • Saturdays from 07h00-08h00 at the church (in the Baby Room)
  • Sundays from 08h30-09h15 at the church (in the Baby Room)
  • Sunday evenings we “Pray for the World” as part of our evening service

We also have designated prayer weeks during January and June of each year

4. Sunday Preaching

Our church provides counselling services for those that are in need of wisdom on a range of issues e.g.  relational, marital, parental, ethical or financial matters.
